36 Weeks

We had our 7th and final class yesterday; now we are just waiting on this baby to make her big debut. I wonder when she will pop out. On the full moon on the 9th? Or maybe Friday the 13th? But hopefully not on Valentine’s Day (Denny is in a wedding that day, and it’s a holiday. I wouldn’t think that it would be too much fun to share your birthday with a holiday). The 15th would be ok though – that’s 6 years since the day we met. Or the 22nd – 6 years since our first date. How romantic!

Ok, enough rambling. Baby Girl is doing great, and mommy is doing even better! I lost half a pound. And the midwife says that this is common at the end, so I am probably through gaining now. And I only gained 27 pounds! Yay! The midwife also felt for the baby yesterday and said that she is small; not unhealthy, just small. So it looks like I won’t have to push out a huge 10 pound baby. Awesome!

The Name Game

I never knew choosing a name could be so hard! When I am looking for baby names, I look for names that are uncommon, but not unusual. Take “Sadie” for example. I have never in my life met anyone named Sadie. The only Sadie I know is Adam Sandler’s daughter, and I doubt we will ever cross paths. There have been Sadies in movies, like Knocked Up and Licence to Wed, but none in real life. So I think that name would be perfect.

The one name that Denny loves is uncommon too – Colby. We don’t know any Colbys, and if I have my way, we won’t have any daughters named Colby, either. It just reminds me of cheese, which is my favorite food, but still. It’s cheese.

All my life, I was the only Megan at my school, at church, everywhere. I never met any other Megans until a few years ago. (And now Denny’s best friend is marrying a Megan next month. What are the odds?) And Denny has been and still is the only Denny that he and I have ever known. We like having names that aren’t shared with tons of other people.

Then there are my brother and sister – Michael and Makayla. Both are very popular names, especially Makayla. I’m around small children almost every day, and there is almost always a Makayla or two in the bunch.

That is exactly what I don’t want for my child. I want her to have her own name. Something original, something that she won’t share with 10 other girls in her school some day. So when Denny and I (almost) decided on a name, which one did we choose?

The #1 girls name in the U.S., of course! We didn’t know it at the time, but as soon as we went to Baby Name Wizard (awesome site, by the way), we were floored when we saw this name at the top of the list. That’s just my luck. All I can say is that I don’t know anyone else with this name. Nor have I taught any children with this name. But I am going to go one step further and use my connections at the health department to find out how many children have been born in the last few years with this name, and then we will decide if it’s a keeper or not.

Wondering what the name is? Go see for yourself. It’s only the most popular name in America, so it shouldn’t be hard to find!

We Got a Wii!

And it’s awesome! Denny’s addiction to Craigslist worked in my favor, for once. Usually he buys super boring things, like tires, and trailers, and 4-wheelers. But he came across a Wii for $200 and we bought it that same night. Can you believe it? Those things sell for $250 at Walmart, and this one had 2 games with it. So everything we got was really worth about $400.

What we didn’t know is that you can connect a Wii to the internet. So what did we do? We bought a wireless router and hooked that baby up! It’s just like having a laptop. Now I’ll never get off of the couch. Oh wait, if I want to play a game I will. Those games will really give you a workout! I guess you know what I will be doing for the next 35 days…….

34 Weeks

This week was our 6th PCP class, and all of the regular appointment stuff, of course. My blood pressure was finally normal again (it’s been kinda high), baby’s heart rate was 150 again, and I am measuring 35 weeks. And the best news was that I only gained half a pound since last week! Yay! That was probably because of a terrible stomach virus I had and I couldn’t keep anything down for 2 days. But hey, I’m happy!

Topic of the class? Birth! You really can’t learn much about how to push a baby out until you are actually trying to push a baby out, but it was good stuff to know anyway. Then the women in the class who have had babies before told us their birth stories. But the best part was when the midwife brought in a baby that had been born that morning! He was so tiny – I can’t believe that I will have one of my own in about a little more than a month!

Next class in in 2 weeks, and then we start going every week. We’re in the home stretch!

My New Nephew

Finally, after 2 nieces and a little girl of our own on the way, we are getting a nephew! This little boy will be just what this family needs. I am so excited! A little boy – and he is due on my birthday. What an awesome present I will get this year! He better be a tough one with all of these girls around! Congrats Brian,  Christy, & Beatrice!

33 Weeks

Wednesday night was our 33 week check-up and fifth PCP class – all about labor. Even though we didn’t watch the birth video (that will be next week), it was the most helpful class so far. I feel so much more prepared now. I know what to expect, and I am more confident that I can handle the pain. I can’t wait to have this baby! I am so excited and so ready to have her here.

Baby Girl is doing just the same as always: I’m measuring at 33 weeks, heart rate was in the 140’s, so a little bit lower than normal, and I gained 5 pounds in 3 weeks. That’s 27 pounds so far – I better slow down! I didn’t want to gain more than 30, but I think I’m going to gain about 35. Oh well. It will all be worth it in the end!
