You Can’t Beat Our Meat

I think we are going to get t-shirts made that say that! Isn’t that hilarious? Well the hunting season is underway, and you know what that means: so is deer processing. Working late, up to my elbows in deer meat, and wearing rubber boots that are oh so stylish is what it’s all about. It’s really not that bad. Actually, I kind of enjoy it. I like being busy. And the extra money is a big help, especially since I will be unemployed starting in January (student teaching all day, every day). I know you can’t imagine me touching raw meat, (I never thought I could either) but I have finally come to the realization that my hands are, in fact, washable. And deer meat tastes good, it’s good for you, and it’s cheaper too, so I have an appreciation for it now that I never had before. So tell everyone you know about Community Deer Processing in the big ol’ town of Nevils. Cause if you haven’t heard already, our meat is hard to beat.

Ms. Blankenship, Science Teacher

Ok, before you even ask why is says Ms. Blankenship, it’s because that is what my nametag says. I’ve had it for 2 years, and I didn’t feel like putting forth the effort (and the $10) to get a new one made. Plus, as far as Georgia Southern is concerned, I’m still Megan Blankenship. So, for the last 2 days, I have taught earth science to 6th graders at Ebenezer Middle School. The problem with that is, I am not a science person. Well, I didn’t think I was until yesterday. Teaching science is so much fun! There are so many hands-on activities you can do with science. I never knew I would enjoy it this much, but I am really starting to like it. I guess that’s a good thing, since I have 6 more days to go.  I just still can’t believe how scared I was to teach a science class. I worried and worried, and researched and planned, and planned some more. And all of that work paid off in the end. I guess the point I’m really trying to make is, mama was always right. You CAN do anything you put your mind to doing. So don’t be afraid to go after what you want, even if it does seem scary or too challenging. If it’s something you really want, the payoff will be well worth the struggle. Oh my lord, I sound like a teacher.

Opening Weekend

So this past Saturday was the first day of hunting season, and let me tell you, it started off slowly. Denny and I went hunting Saturday morning, and didn’t see a thing. Obviously nobody else did either, because last year Denny cleaned almost 20 deer the first morning, and this year, only 3 came in. Saturday evening was awesome though. Sitting in the stand, it sounded like we were in the middle of a war zone. There were shots being fired all around us. And then right before dark, two deer walked out to our left. I was going to try to get a shot at one of them, but they were too far away, and it was too dark to see clearly. We waited and could hear deer walking around behind us. We were so exited! Finally those two deer came closer. By this time it was completely dark, but Denny thought he could hit the deer, even though all he could see was an outline. And he did! A 7-point buck! (I’ll put a picture up soon) His dad and my dad both shot deer that evening too. But we didn’t goSunday morning, and we didn’t see anything Sunday evening when we went. I thought it was gonna be my day, but I guess I will have to wait until next weekend…………..                                                                                                                                dennys-deer-002.jpg

Movin’ On Up

It’s official! My mom and stepdad bought a house in Brooklet today! Yay! Now we will live about 10 minutes away from each other, instead of 45. This is so exciting! We are going to rip down wallpaper and paint walls tomorrow. And there is a pool! I know where I will be next summer. Who am I kidding? It’s still hot enough outside I could go swimming tomorrow. Maybe I will……

Something New

I started a blog! I kinda copied my sister-in-law Christy, but that’s ok. I have a lot to say, and I’m a very open person, but I’m usually very quiet and I don’t say much, so this is my outlet. This is great! I can finally say anything and everything that I want to. I hope you find it interesting……………..
