4 Month Check-Up

7 07 2009

Yesterday was Emily’s 4 month appointment with Dr. Z and whoa! It was nothing like what I thought it would be. As it turns out, Emily doesn’t weigh nearly as much as I thought she did. She is a whopping 11 pounds, 14 ounces. She has gained only 1 pound and 14 ounces in the last 2 months! She also went from being in the 25th percentile for weight to the 20th. But she isn’t skinny – she has rolls all over the place! Dr. Z assured us that there is nothing to be worried about, but I still wish she weighed just a little more!

She is getting much longer though – she is now 24 3/4″ long. Over 2 feet tall already! That’s a 2 inch increase in the last 2 months, and she is still in the 75th percentile for length. So she is growing, she is just growing longer and not wider. Most importantly her head is growing, which means that her brain is too! That was obvious when I answered the questions in her 4 month developmental questionaire. She got a “yes” for each and every question! I flipped ahead to look at the 6 month questions, and she got a yes for most of those already too! Dr. Z was very impressed with how advanced she is – so impressed that she gave us the go-ahead to introduce Emily to cereal and to begin baby-proofing our house for our roly poly baby!

Dylan was and is tall for his age too- so that’s why they aren’t high up on the percentile in weight I guess… the cereal will help her pack on a few pounds too- when he started cereal he began to “round out” a little! Glad to know she’s doing great!
